Abstract:Pollen of Angiospermae is the male gametophyte that pollinates, fertilizes and bears fruits. Its structure determines the success of fertilization. The generative cell in pollen is the mother cell of sperm cell. GC undergo mitosis to form two sperm cells. Pollen can be divided into 2-celled pollen or 3-celled pollen according to the time and place of GC mitosis. The study revealed particularity of pollen structure of A. villosum by using epoxy resin semithin sections and periodic acid-Schiff’s technique and Sudan black staining method. The study indicate that the pollen is 2-celled, It stored abundant polysaccharide starches and lipids, Its wall consists of polysaccharide. The GCs are isolated and are collected from 2-celled pollen with the method of osmotic shock. The study on the pollen structure and the isolated GCs is a bottleneck to solve the problem of difficult pollination and the shortage of traditional Chinese medicine resources of A. villosum.
